Blending Culture, Creativity, and Collaboration

As part of their Chinese New Year celebrations, Kingfisher Sourcing Organisation (KSO) — the sourcing arm of Europe’s leading home improvement retailer — wanted an activity that was festive, meaningful, and team-oriented. Dragon Squad, a creative team-building experience rooted in music, dance, and culture, proved to be the perfect choice.
Designed to reflect the symbolic importance of the Dragon in Asian culture, the activity combined hands-on creativity with performance, aligning Kingfisher’s Hong Kong team in a memorable celebration of teamwork and tradition.

The activity was designed to be high-energy, hands-on, and celebratory — leaving participants with a strong sense of shared accomplishment.

Challenges

Designing a Modern Team Activity with Traditional Roots
The dragon dance is deeply symbolic, so the challenge was to design an activity that was both authentic and innovative.

Ensuring Every Team Member Was Actively Involved
With large teams, roles needed to be well-distributed so everyone had a meaningful part to play.

Balancing Creativity with Coordination in Dance and Design
Teams had to merge their creative visions with the discipline of a coordinated group performance.

Solutions

Dragon Construction Workshops with Creative Freedom
Teams built dragon heads and tails from scratch, adding decorations, colours, and unique design touches that reflected their personality.

Music and Choreography Sessions for Dance Performance
Concurrent workshops trained representatives to select music and choreograph routines, ensuring each dragon came to life in motion.

Recognition Awards for Best Decorated Dragon and Best Performance
The event concluded with performances judged for creativity and coordination, sparking friendly competition and celebration.

Results

Twelve Unique Dragons Created and Performed
Every team successfully built and animated their dragon, culminating in a vibrant showcase of creativity and collaboration.
